The Book Thief Kitap Hırsızı İngilizce Kitap Özeti

The Book Thief Kitap Hırsızı İngilizce Kitap Özeti

by Markus Zusak
The year is 1939. The world is wrestling with the idea of another war, and the German people are teetering on the edge of a dreadful new reality. With the help of lively characters, poetic prose and an unusual narration by Death, The Book Thief takes us on a remarkable journey alongside the residents of one small street of one small town in war-torn Germany.
Liesel Meminger is a little girl lost when she arrives at a strange house on Himmel Street, feeling confused and alienated by a war she doesn’t understand. Her new foster parents, Hans and Rosa Hubermann, soon make her feel at home, although Hans’ gentle character is in stark contrast to his wife’s brusque embrace of motherhood.
Liesel befriends a boy who lives along the street, Rudy Steiner, and the two become inseparable. Important events such as Hitler’s birthday, book burning ceremonies and the horrors and destruction of the war unfolding in Europe’s fields and skies, are wound around day-to-day life for Liesel, Rudy and the other residents of Himmel Street.

Liesel struggles at first to read and write, but with Hans’ soft coaxing and dedicated coaching she is captivated by the world of words. Slowly but surely, Liesel begins to link the incredible power of words to the way Hitler is controlling and slowly destroying her homeland. Books become Liesel’s lifeline, and she finds solace in words when she befriends the Mayor’s wife, who lets her read in their well-stocked library. Each of the books that come into Liesel’s life has a special significance; she treasures links to her past and the comforting daily reading lessons with Hans.
As Liesel tries to come to terms with the significance of Hitler’s rule, the Hubermanns’ daily cycle of survival is jeopardised when a Jewish refugee, Max, begs a hiding place in their basement. The family struggle to keep their dangerous secret safe, and to keep Max alive in the achingly cold cellar. Liesel’s friendship with Max slowly grows, and through their shared love of words he becomes a brother figure to her. She’s devastated when Max has to leave; it’s no longer safe for him to stay. Soon afterwards he is captured and marched along Himmel Street to the nearby concentration camp, to Liesel’s despair.
As the war rips the country apart, and Allied bombs fall perilously close to Himmel Street, Liesel realises that words alone will never be enough to save the people she loves. But perhaps they can shine a brighter light on the beauty of human tenderness and compassion that still resist the hatred inflicted by Hitler and war.
The Book Thief is about growing up in Nazi Germany. But it’s also about hope, love, family, rebelliousness, guilt, the human spirit and the beauty that tragedy can bring

Monte Cristo İngilizce Kitap Özeti

Monte Cristo İngilizce Kitap Özeti

The Count of Monte Cristo centers around Edmond Dantes , who is imprisoned in a dungeon for fourteen years. Three men conspire against him. Danglars, jealous of Dantes being made ship captain, writes a letter which results in his arrest. Fernand, who is in love with Edmond’s fiancé Mercedes, conspires with Danglars to have Dantes accused of being a traitor. The royal prosecutor, Villefort, keeps the innocent Dantes detained in prison without trial for fear the truth will come out about his own father’s involvement with the Bonapartists.
During his time in prison, Edmond dwells upon thoughts of revenge. From another prisoner, he learns of a fortune hidden on the deserted island of Monte Cristo. Dantes manages to escape and discovers the treasure. He returns to society as a wealthy man, the Count of Monte Cristo.
Edmond uses his unexpected freedom and newfound wealth as an opportunity to get revenge on his enemies, and plots to bring about their ruin. By crafty planning and the assuming of disguises, he insinuates himself into their now-prosperous lives. An evil presence masquerading as a friend, he brings up old secrets and creates havoc and financial ruin upon his betrayers.
The Count of Monte Cristo: Theme of Revenge
The Count of Monte Cristo poses the age-old question—is vengeance ever justified? While Monte Cristo sets out to destroy his enemies, he finds that their lives are intermingled with people he cares about and who he means no harm. Every act of vengeance causes a chain reaction that punishes not only the guilty but the innocent.
By revenging himself upon Fernand, which results in his suicide, he brings disgrace to Fernand’s son, Albert, who he has grown to like. He also brings misery to Mercedes, the woman he still loves.
Dantes uses the weakness and greed of Villefort’s wife to cause the destruction of the Villefort family. Using poison she learned about from Dantes, she becomes a murderess and Villefort is driven to madness. Villefort’s innocent daughter from his first marriage, Valentine, who is in love with the son of Dante’s good friend, barely escapes being fatally poisoned as a result of Dante’s desire for vengeance.
After financially ruining Danglars, Dantes shows mercy by sparing his life. In the end, the Count learns that vengeance comes with a heavy price, and, freed at last from of his desire for revenge, he begins a new life.
Works Inspired by the Count of Monte Cristo
The Count of Monte Cristo has been made several times into movies, including the black and white 1934 version starring Robert Donat to a 2002 film starring James Caviezel in the role of Edmond Dantes.

Kitap okumanın faydaları. İngilizce Makale

Kitap okumanın faydaları. İngilizce Makale

Reading has at all times and in all ages been a great source of knowledge. Today the ability to read is highly valued and very important for social and economic advancement. In today's world with so much more to know and to learn and also the need for a conscious effort to conquer the divisive forces, the importance of reading has increased.

Reading skills are essential to succeed in society. Those who are good readers tend to exhibit progressive social skills. A person who is widely read is able to mix with others. He is a better conversationalist then those who do not read. He can stand his ground. Reading broadens the vision. It is in a way a substitute for travel. It is not possible to travel as much one would like to and reading can fill in the gap created by the lack of travel. Having confidence in reading only comes from the daily practice of reading. A good reader can interact with others in a far better way because reading has widened his vision and point of view. Thus a widely-read man is a better conversationalist and is able to see the other side point of view.

Educational researchers have found that there is a strong correlation between reading and academic success. A student who is a good reader is more likely to do well in school and pass exams than a student who is a weak reader. Good reader can understand the individual sentences and organizational structure of a piece of writing. They can comprehend ideas, follow arguments and detect implications. Good readers can extract from the writing what is important for the particular task they are employed in and they can do it quickly. Educational researchers have also found a strong correlation between reading and vocabulary knowledge. Students who have a large vocabulary are usually good readers.

Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

DENİZLER ALTINDA YİRMİ BİN FERSAH İNGİLİZCE KİTAP ÖZETİ

An eccentric French scientist, his friend and a jovial Canadian sailor are accidentally taken captive by Captain Nemo, a mad scientist in his amazing surmarine, the Nautilus. Placed under arrest by Nemo, the three companions learn to enjoy their new home, and with Nemo they explore the seven seas, travelling to barbarian lands, the lost city of Atlantis, and even fight an enormous squid-like monster. ” Daniel, Resident Scholar “Mysterious things are happening in the sea. Ships are being sent out; however, they are sunk by someone… or maybe something… Monsieur Arronax, a scientist is invited, along with his trusty servant Conseil, on a ship known as the Abraham Lincoln, to seek out the cause of the recent ship wrecks. After a few months out into open water, they are attacked, by something that looks like a monster. After a long chase in the water, an event throws the worthy scientist off the ship, along with Conseil, and a Canadian fisherman, Ned Land. Eventually they get close to the so called monster, which eventually turns out to be a modern, as well as highly technological submarine, titled the Nautilus. Captain Nemo, commander of the Sub, allows the trio to stay on the ship, however, they are not permitted to leave. Now begins an extraordinary voyage under the sea, as Arronax, who is guided by Captain Nemo discovers the fascinating wonders of the sea. Arronax, as well as Conseil, is fascinated by what he sees around himself. But the Canadian fisherman is losing his patience by the day. Despite the amazing specimens, scientific facts, not to be found in nearly a hundred years by man, fantastic locales and the captain’s generosity, Ned still wants to escape. Arronax decides that if a worthy opportunity presents itself, then they will not hesitate to leave. Although he has given his word, Arronax does not wish to anger the captain, for his generosity is much too great for that matter. The submarine starts in regular waters, continues in a boiling soup, travels through Atlantis, volcanoes, giant sea monsters, and there is more where that came from. All of this is packed tight into a 300 page sci-fi thriller! ” Walid Khalid, Resident Scholar “The story basically begins with the very intelligent Professor Arronax calculating basic measurements. He’s a modern french biologist during this time period. The professor had somewhat of an understudy, an apprentice if you will, named Conseil. Conseil was just about as skilled as the professor as far as classification, and knowing so much information about just about everything. One day, the professor got a letter that invited him to go on a select trip to hunt the killer narwhal. Mysteriously, several ships had been rammed, and had a triangular shaped scar on the spot where the uncanny shipmates had decided that the narwhal hit. So Professor Arronax and Conseil went to examine the accidents. They get on the ship and meet a Canadian harpooner named Ned Land. He told them that he was the best at what he does, and that he was ready to take out the narwhal. After a while, they come across the infamous narwhal. They find it strange that the narwhal is about three times as long as the ship they’re on, and that it glows. The professor’s ship is attacked, and they are stranded in the ocean, they climb aboard the narwahal to find out that it is in actuality a submarine. They finally meet a strange man named Captain Nemo, who explains to them that it is his ship and that the professor, Conseil, and Ned Land can stay as long as they go with him on a trip around the world in his submarine, the Nautilus. They begin to go on amazing trips.” Emmanuel Hayes, Resident Scholar

Çarlinin Çharlie Çikolata Fabrikası İngilizce Kitap Özeti

Çarlinin Çikolata Fabrikası İngilizce Kitap Özeti

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Mr. Willy Wonka, the eccentric owner of the greatest chocolate factory in the world, has decided to open the doors of his factory to five lucky children and their parents. In order to choose who will enter the factory, Mr. Wonka devises a plan to hide five golden tickets beneath the wrappers of his famous chocolate bars. The search for the five golden tickets is fast and furious. Augustus Gloop, a corpulent child whose only hobby is eating, unwraps the first ticket, for which his town throws him a parade. Veruca Salt, an insufferable brat, receives the next ticket from her father, who had employed his entire factory of peanut shellers to unwrap chocolate bars until they found a ticket. Violet Beauregarde discovers the third ticket while taking a break from setting a world record in gum chewing. The fourth ticket goes to Mike Teavee, who, as his name implies, cares only about television.
Charlie Bucket, the unsuspecting hero of the book, defies all odds in claiming the fifth and final ticket. A poor but virtuous boy, Charlie lives in a tiny house with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bucket, and all four of his grandparents. His grandparents share the only bed in the house, located in the only bedroom, and Charlie and his parents sleep on mattresses on the floor. Charlie gets three sparse meals a day, which is hardly enough to nourish a growing boy, As a result, he is almost sickly thin. Once a year, on his birthday, Charlie gets one bar of Wonka chocolate, which he savors over many months. The Bucket family’s circumstances become all the more dire when Mr. Bucket loses his job. But a tremendous stroke of luck befalls Charlie when he spots a raggedy dollar bill buried in the snow. He decides to use a little of the money to buy himself some chocolate before turning the rest over to his mother. After inhaling the first bar of chocolate, Charlie decides to buy just one more and within the wrapping finds the fifth golden ticket. He is not a moment too soon: the next day is the date Mr. Wonka has set for his guests to enter the factory.
Neither Mr. nor Mrs. Bucket can accompany Charlie to the factory. Mr. Bucket must search for work to put food on the table and Mrs. Bucket must care for the invalided grandparents. Magically, Charlie’s oldest and most beloved grandparent, Grandpa Joe, springs out of bed for the first time in decades. Charlie’s lucky find has transformed him into an energetic and almost childlike being. Grandpa Joe and Charlie set out on their adventure.
In the factory, Charlie and Grandpa Joe marvel at the unbelievable sights, sounds, and especially smells of the factory. Whereas they are grateful toward and respectful of Mr. Wonka and his factory, the other four children succumb to their own character flaws. Accordingly, they are ejected from the factory in mysterious and painful fashions. Augustus Gloop falls into the hot chocolate river—while attempting to drink it—and is sucked up by one of the many pipes. Veruca Salt is determined to be a “bad nut” by nut-judging squirrels who throw her out with the trash. Violet Beauregarde impetuously grabs an experimental piece of gum and chews herself into a giant blueberry. She is consequently removed from the factory. With the hope of being on his beloved television, Mike Teavee shrinks himself, and his father has to carry him out in his breast pocket. During each child’s fiasco, Mr. Wonka alienates the parents with his nonchalant reaction to the child’s seeming demise. He remains steadfast in his belief that everything will work out in the end.
After each child’s trial, the Oompa-Loompas beat drums and sing a moralizing song about the downfalls of greedy, spoiled children. When only Charlie remains, Willy Wonka turns to him and congratulates him for winning. The entire day has been another contest, the prize for which is the entire chocolate factory, which Charlie has just won. Charlie, Grandpa Joe, and Mr. Wonka enter the great glass elevator, which explodes through the roof of the factory and crashes down through the roof of Charlie’s house, where they collect the rest of the Bucket family.

Harry Potter Sırlar Odası İngilizce Kitap Özeti

Harry Potter Sırlar Odası İngilizce Kitap Özeti

Writer: Joanne K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter is spending his summer holidays with the Dursleys when he meets Dobby, a house-elf, who warns him not to go to Hogwarts. When the young wizard refuses, the house-elf drops a large pudding in the Dursleys’ kitchen and Harry is punished for it. The Dursleys lock him in his room, but soon afterwards he is freed by Ron and his twin brothers and is taken to The Burrow in an enchanted flying car.
It is time to return to school. Harry and Ron try to get through the portal at King’s Cross Station, but find it closed. So they steal Mr Weasley’s car and fly it to Hogwarts, only to crash into the Whomping Willow. They escape being expelled but are given detention. School days pass quickly. Inside the castle Harry is the only person who hears a mysterious voice threatening to kill. After a Halloween party, Mrs Norris the cat is found Petrified. The students are scared; everyone is talking about the Chamber of Secrets and the monster within.
During a Quidditch match, Gryffindor against Slytherin, Harry is injured by a rogue Bludger. He ends up in hospital where he is visited by Dobby again. The house-elf admits that he closed the portal at the station and bewitched the bludger. A student ends up Petrified and Harry learns that the Chamber of Secrets was opened fifty years before.
Professor Lockheart starts a Duelling Club. When Draco Malfoy sets a serpent against Harry, the wizard stops its attack by speaking in parseltongue. The students are terrified and suspect Harry of being the heir of Slytherin. The rumour intensifies when the young wizard finds another student and one of the ghosts Petrified. Hermione brews a Polyjuice Potion so they can transform into Malfoy’s friends and get their enemy to admit that he is the real heir. But the boys discover that Draco does not know who is opening the Chamber. Ron and Harry find an empty diary. Harry is curious and starts writing in it. The diary was enchanted by a boy called Tom Riddle; through it Harry sees Hagrid, fifty years earlier, accused of setting a giant spider onto a girl and killing her.

When Hermione and another girl are Petrified, Ron and Harry use an invisible cloak to get to Hagrid’s hut. Hidden behind the cloak they hear the Minister of Magic arresting Hagrid and removing Dumbledore as headmaster. Hagrid instructs them to follow the spiders. These lead the boys into the Forbidden Forest. Here Ron and Harry are captured by a colony of giant spiders. The leader, Aragog, admits that he is Hagrid’s monster. The boys find out that the monster’s victim could be Moaning Myrtle, now a wraith in the toilets.
During a visit to Hermione, Ron and Harry find a piece of paper in her hand bearing the word ‘basilisk’. Their friend had discovered the identity of the real monster. The teachers panic when Ginny Weasley is abducted, and they send the students home.
Ron and Harry decide it is time to act, so they take Professor Lockheart to Moaning Myrtle’s toilet and there they find a secret passage through one of the sinks. The boys and their hapless teacher go down the passageway. Lockheart tries to bewitch them but the curse falls on himself. Ron and Harry are separated, and Harry decides to enter the chamber alone.
The young wizard finds Ginny Weasley alive, but he also meets Tom Riddle. The latter admits that he is Lord Voldermort, the last heir of Slytherin, and he sets the basilisk onto Harry. Dumbledore’s phoenix enters the chamber and drops the Sorting Hat in Harry’s hands, whilst it punctures the basilisk’s eyes. In the Sorting Hat, Harry finds Gryffindor’s sword and with it kills the snake. The wizard destroys Tom Riddle by pushing the basilisk’s poisonous fang into the diary.
Back in Dumbledore’s office, Harry tells his story. Lucius Malfoy, furious that the headmaster is back, is accused of giving Ginny the bewitched diary. He is also tricked by Potter into freeing Dobby. The students celebrate with a midnight feast and Gryffindor win the House Cup for the second time running.

Ölü Adamın Adası İngilizce Türkçe Kitap Özeti

Ölü Adamın Adası İngilizce Türkçe Kitap Özeti

Dead Man’s Island – Ölü Adamın Adası – Writer: John  Escott
Carol lives with her father and mother in Hong Kong. Her father is on  business trip by plane. The day that he comes back there’s a plane accident.  First she doesn’t think that her father can sit in that plane. But later as she  thinks it over, she calls her mother. They drive to the airplane and there they  hear that her father has died.
That was really hard for Carol and her mother. Carol doesn’t listen to  the music of her favourite singer Jake Rosso anymore. He was also killed in an  accident. Her mother concludes to go back to England, because Carol was expelled  from school.
So they go to England and live in a hotel for a long time. Her mother  finds a job as secretary and her workplace is on a little island somewhere in  Scotland. She can live there with Carol. As she arrives at the house, she meets  Mr. Ross. He is her boss. Mr. Ross is a young man with a moustache. While  Carol’s mother works, Carol helps on the farm on the island.
One day when she comes back from horse riding she looks up and she sees  an old man in a window. He looks away when she looks at him. The next day  Carol makes some pictures of the house. While she looks in her camera Mr. Ross  gets out. She wants to make a picture but then the gardener comes toward her and  takes the camera out of her hands and demolishes her photograph cotton reel. She  is shocked. When she asks why she can’t make a photo he said that you never must  make a photo of Mr. Ross. She finds it all completely mysterious.
That evening she begins researching and she goes to the room the window  belongs to. There’s light in the room. She waits and looks. Then the door is  opening. Mr. Ross comes out of the room. Carol hides in her room. She sees that  Mr. Ross puts the keys in the plant barge. The next day she goes up to the room,  picks up the keys and enters the room. She looks around and sees a lot of  posters of Jack Rosso in the room.
Then Mr. Ross is coming in the room. She is shocked and looks at the  posters. Then she sees it: Mr. Ross is Jack Rosso. She shouted: “You are Jack  Rosso!” Just as Mr. Ross says nothing. But then he says the he is Jack Rosso. He  says: “In the past I was on drugs and I was addicted to alcohol. I was drunk,  got in the car and then I ran over a 15 year old girl and killed her, but I  drove further. Later I realised what I had done and I wanted to die.
He says, I had a plan: I pretended there was an accident and I was  dead”
She finds it strange that she lives on a island with a dead man. Later  she leaves from the island. Now she is at school and she is very happy.
